“Bigger and better Tiger Airways” will resume flights with four return services each from Melbourne and Sydney from April 9, according to Alice Springs airport manager Katie Cooper.
An airline release quotes fares as “from $99.95″.
Ms Cooper says Alice Springs Airport has worked closely with Tourism Minister Matt Conlan and Tourism NT CEO, Tony Mayell in recent months to ensure a collaborative approach to securing additional capacity to Alice Springs.
‘The new services will add close to 150,000 new seats into the market,” says Ms Cooper.
Tiger Airways Australia Commercial Director, Carly Brear, says: “We’ve been inundated with requests for Tiger’s low cost flights to serve Central Australia, a community that currently lacks low cost options and critically is so heavily reliant on tourism.
“The people of Alice Springs will be the first to tell you that they won our recent online voting poll calling for Australian’s to vote where Tiger should fly to next and today we are announcing not one but two new routes into Alice from Australia’s two largest capital cities.
“It really is a case of ‘the people have spoken’ and Tiger has responded!”
Ms Cooper says: “We are currently in the process of revamping our entire food and beverage offer with a completion date mid-year, and will
shortly be upgrading other parts of our retail and airport experience.
“The timing for Tiger Airways’ resumption could not be better.”

  1. Great to know Tiger will be offering 4 services a week to / from Alice into Sydney and Melbourne. Just hope they get their act together better this time.
Previously, having booked Tiger flights on line, there was no provision to change them in the same way. Try calling the ‘phone number in Melbourne and there was never an answer. I ended up having to call Singapore (30 minutes) to change flights (due to another connecting carrier altering its schedule).
In time, hopefully Tiger will take on the lucrative Alice to Darwin route as well. They could take over much of the NTG passengers and offer a reasonable alternative to QANTAS.
Well done, Minister Conlan, Tony Mayell, Katie Cooper and to all the negotiators involved. Let’s see how it all works out!

  2. Fantastic result – can’t wait to head off to live shows in Sydney and Melbourne.
This opens a whole new opportunity for us long-time residents of the Centre and hopefully keep many of us here in our older idler days.

  3. Congratulations Matt Conlan, Tony Mayell and Katie Cooper – YOU SAVED CENTRAL AUSTRALIAN TOURISM – Tiger, Alice to Darwin would be a massive boost to NT Tourism.
