It got the gong for its solar energy project which now generates 50 per cent of the airport’s energy requirements from a solar power project combined with its premium parking facilities.

Meanwhile Tennant Creek Airport was chosen as Regional Airport of the Year (up to 50,000 passengers)  for its runway resurfacing project which involved upgrading over 100,000 square metres of aircraft movement areas.

The association says its awards “celebrate and honour the contributions and achievements made by members during the 2013-14 financial year. They acknowledge the individuals and organisations who are achieving excellence within the Australian airport industry”.

  1. Great news for now. Once manufacturers work out how to coat vehicles in solar panels though everyone will want to park in the sun. Still a good idea for now.

  2. I love the concept of using the solar cells as roofing for car parking. Are there power areas for those with electric cars to charge up also. There are a couple of those cars in town.
