Alice Springs residents south of The Gap can look forward to relief for their congested WiFi and mobile phone services.

Telstra says it is adding 4GX services to its base station near the airport.

“The introduction of 4GX services will mean increased capacity for the local mobile network, giving locals improved and more consistent data speeds.

“This means more social media and video, in more places with less delay and less buffering,” says Tianee Dohnt, Corporate Affairs Manager NT.

“Our customers are relying on mobile connectivity more than ever. The explosion in applications, shift towards mobile video consumption and use of mobile in commerce means demand for connectivity continues to grow strongly.

“Introducing 4GX at this site will allow us to offer our Alice Springs customers Australia’s fastest most reliable mobile service.

“We anticipate the upgrades will be complete by this Friday 10 April.”

  1. Watch this space. Let’s see how good it is during the Finke Desert Race, Road Transport Hall of Fame Reunion and other major events. That should be an interesting time over the June long weekend and end of August for event organsiers / media / participants and normal local traffic. Sorry, but I am of little faith when it comes to Telstra / Bigpond.

  2. 4G at the airport yesterday, 3G still in Palm Circuit where there are 5 businesses in and around Palm Circuit. When will we see 4G?
