Comment on Tourism: let the battle for the big spenders begin by Byjingalo.

I say Tony, damn blighters just need a good old wash and the old town will have the tourists pouring back through the Gap once again.
You clearly have no idea of how the Alice Springs story has travelled in your absence, please stay in Darwin where you seem more comfortable with the “conditions”.

Tourism: let the battle for the big spenders begin
Hal, now I do see that you have a point. However, grey nomads are perhaps not the “big spenders” referred to in this article. From the way I read it, the target market being referred to here is perhaps more likely to spend their dollars on quality, value added experiences away from Alice Springs.
The town has always been a service centre, a point of entry or departure.
By way of comparison, a visitor to Kenya is not going to be attracted to the destination by the bright lights of Nairobi.

Alice Springs is not a tourist destination. It’s a smallville service centre with a poor reputation that sticks like Tanami mud.

Good one Charlie! A little leg work for a great reward. The walk in would be an enriching experience for those able and willing to undertake it. Some people would miss out – so be it.
