p2236-dates-van-Holthe-1Chief Minister Adam Giles has issued a statement a short while ago that he is accepting the resignation of his deputy, of Willem Westra van Holthe (pictured, white shirt) from Cabinet.

Mr van Holthe held a media conference in Darwin at 4pm, announcing his resignation.

Mr Giles said: “I would like to recognise the great work Willem has done in rebuilding the live cattle trade after Labor’s destructive moratorium and expanding it into new markets and products.

“Willem has also driven valuable work to identify future agricultural prospects in the Territory through soil and water mapping which has opened up vast tracts of land for potential economic development.

“I look forward to Willem’s continuing contributions as the Member for Katherine.

“A meeting of the Country Liberal’s Parliamentary Wing will be held late on Monday to decide a new Deputy Chief Minister.”

  1. Glad you identified who was who in the caption, Erwin – they could be identical twins!
Can someone please explain why politicians demand by God-given right to be called “The Honorable” when the sad reality in Territory politics is hardly any of them have shown that quality in the term of the current Government.
The saddest part of all of that is, as Wee Willem showed, they just don’t get it. We have an expectations of standards they don’t even go close to meeting.
Really, that applies to both sides of the House and most of the cross-benches (and even the “no hubris” party) as well.

  2. Another day, another leader / deputy-leader / minister for this or that – if nothing else, this latest shuffle speaks well of the Giles government’s commitment to recycling.

  3. I’d like to hear from Steve in this tough period for his beloved Country Liberal Party. All I can say is that there is no way that this kindergarten party will be reelected. Surely now, Steve, you can say your party is one that no one should follow.
    R.I.P Country Liberal Party.

  4. 11 ministries since Giles shafted Terry Mills. 11!
And this clown thinks he can provide the NT with stable government – bring on the election!
