Comment on Fracking probe: Part risks raised, part industry pitch by Evelyne Roullet.

“The latter are what you are using in your household even day (pictured below, right): They occur in your pool cleaner, soil conditioner in your garden, soap, ice cream, lemon juice and lipstick, to name a few of the brochure’s reassuring examples. .”
I do not know about you Erwin, but I do not put: pool cleaner, isopropanol, guar gum, glutaraldehyde, borate salts ethylene glycol or polyacrylamide in my drinking
water.
Once you look at the name and the material safety data sheets, you can understand my view on fracking.

[ED – Hi Evelyne, just to be sure, the statement isn’t mine, but the commission’s.]

Turn rock-throwing into backflips: how community can help
Excellent article on the subject Rainer, but with respect I do not totally agree with this statement:
“The entire Social Services industry has been revolutionised over the last 10 years, with the development of trauma-informed practice being central to the reform. Any new services need to be led by people well trained in this practice”.
Having been a resident since early 70s and worked all my life with teenagers, some residents of Giles House, I see the situation is getting worse than ever and, with respect due to the academic graduates, nothing can replace life experience and good will.
The young social workers too often want to be a friend, without realising that a traumatised or troubled teenager needs an APPROACHABLE, FRIENDLY, RESPONSIBLE adult, not a new friend.
I see a volunteer like a house parent.
Personal requirements of a House Parent in Australia:
• concern for the wellbeing of young people
• understanding of students’ needs and cultural differences
• sense of responsibility
• good leadership skills
• good organisational skills
• able to work closely with others in a community setting
• able to cope with the physical demands of the job.

@ Russel Guy: The proposal for a 24/7 Youth Centre has no mention of turning the tap down?
We all know why so many kids are on the street but talking of turning down the tap would have been off subject and direction would have changed boycotting the issue.
I went to the meeting to put my hand up for volunteering to help the kids by giving them a safe place, not to debate the flow of alcohol in town.

@ Heather Wells: I am in total agreement with you on the subject: Send a message to those braking the laws.

Wakefield insists on Anzac Oval, ignores majority
So far we have being told only about the layout of the ground. What about giving us:
• A look at the facilities design.
• A list of artifacts, artworks we have to put in to open the doors.
• The predictions for staffing: qualifications and salaries.
• The cost of maintenance and who will pay for it. Alice Town Council?
• The entrance fees.
All those questions and more should be answered before talking of location for a real consultation.
