Dear Evelyne
Yes! I’m on the list alright! You must have missed the page listing.
Just turn to the listing – under “Laugh Gene Real Life”. Up there in lights next to Dennis Waterman. What about you? You sound like an Expert of some sort. You gotta be on a list, surely?

Extreme variability: local climate change right now
Dear Matto
The point being, is that while we should all look of course to improving our immediate environment with innovative bio-diversity initiatives discussed in Kieran’s article, the misleadingly named “climate change” global debate has gone way off track, hijacked by the alarmist Prophets of Impending Doom, way beyond any rational or scientific discussion of a balance between the the control of human pollution factors versus the control of unstoppable factors of Mother Earth natural forces and the the Universe. For example, one of the myriad of Unstoppable factors is the sudden eruption of a volcano…say…in the Pacific…on a major fault line…no one seems willing to look honestly at this balanced exercise of due diligence.. …I reckon a heck of a lot of reasonably-thinking ordinary people are hanging out for such a global debate…but it will not happen…you and I both know that….. because it is lost in an emotive haze of Believers versus Non-Believers…Us versus Them

Extreme variability: local climate change right now
I am a professional climate change expert of long experience. Having lived through 70 years of the climate changing, my professional opinion is that there is no possible way we mere humans can change the climate to make it do what we want it to do. The Earth will continue to turn on its axis and revolve around the sun or whatever it has done in the solar system for countless eons. There will continue to be threats from rogue asteroids, cataclysmic forces and alien bodies from other planets, including Collingwood types, until Hell freezes over. My professional advice to the Disciples of the Church of Climate Change who predict Climate Doomsday is best summed up in the immortal words of Lesley Birchuse and Anthony Newley: STOP THE WORLD, I WANT TO GET OFF!

Pine Gap and the Nobel prize the Oz government ignores
Russell writes a nice heartfelt article. Emotional and committed to the notion that he and his fellow self-named “peaceniks” are enlightened and inhabit a black-and-white “Us against Them” world where they have always been pitted against those hateful “conservatives” who are warmongers who refused to see the light in all the peace causes down the years.
But my experience has been that life is shades of grey. Vietnam halted the Communist drive down through SE Asia long enough to let Malaysia and Indonesia overcome the insurgency.
My South Vietnamese friends Tom and Than Dong will tell you of genocide cleansing throughout their old Montagnard village countryside when Hanoi took over and the oppressed people have since learned to keep their mouths shut on fear of death.
My left wing American friends who did contract work at Pine Gap will tell you that the facility does good work to ensure world peace stability.
And the Amerixan community in Alice has been a socially binding force for good in the Centre.
My German friends from the Black Forest will tell you that the Wall came down because the West fought the good fight but they warn the reality of world Communism in Russia remains an ever present and constant evil.
The best way to describe our world where the vast majority of us “progresives” and “conservatives” know the reality and we all work towards peace in our own ways – is that our daily lives and values are a good mix of “fifty shades of grey”. Not peaceniks v warmongers.

Gap Centre is the centre of The Gap
I would like to commend both Centres for their incomparable work with the young people of Alice down the years.
They have all been magnificent in their selfless work and countless Alicians must have great stories to tell about them.
I would like to pay special tribute to the late Mrs Joan Higgins and Alan, her trusty sidekick of many years at Wills Terrace, and Graham and Ronda Ross down at the Gap.
I have had the great privilege of seeing them in action, giving amazing help to kids in need, 24/7, 365/12. Such good hearts. Alician Treasures.

Peter. It looks like you have me sorted as a bigoted, born-to-rule white male heterosexual No voter – in no uncertain manner.
To make matters worse, I was also born an Essendon AFL third generation supporter and will go to the death as a True Believer, maintaining the faith in the Mighty Bombers. Your mind is made up. So be it.
However, your comment makes me wonder what your moral judgment is of a No voter who happens not to be white (eg Vaughan) or neither white nor male (eg Theresa)?
Do they have any redeeming qualities as No voters, or are we all No vote bigots with no empathy etc? How do you rationalise their No vote views?
I ask these questions in good faith. I am genuinely curious to learn your thoughts.

Vaughan, Malcolm, Theresa and Steve. I would like to say thank you for speaking out to vote No. Please be aware that voting No exposes you to being called a homophobe and a bigot. You will be seen as a weirdo bigoted heterosexual in today’s new world. Don’t be afraid. You know in your heart that you are not what they say you are. You no doubt have gay friends, like I do. We believe what we believe. When the Yes vote wins the day we will not be in the majority. Stay true to yourself. You must keep the faith in the face of the vitriol you will cop. That’s life.

You can vote No with love: Alice priest
@ Number 19: You say that all discrimination is morally wrong. However, fair and reasonable discrimination is everywhere around us.
I do not know what your gender is, but I think we would all agree with the discrimination that does not permit a male to enter female toilet.
The word “discrimination” has been captured by the PC brigade at the Human Rights Commission and enshrined in the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 as part of the secular new age moral gospel on right and wrong.
The Human Rights zealots have re-shaped the word to mean whatever they want it to mean. For example, they authorise discrimination in favour of certain groups in our society as morally good in Section 9 and Section 10 of the Act.
In those Sections of the Act have re-badged the word “discrimination””and now call it “Special Measures”.
It is an in-house term, used by their lawyers in courts and tribunals when accusing respondents of discrimination against their clients under the Act.
They hace also referred to S.9 and S.10 to excuse their own clients’ discriminatory actions.
In other parts of the Act they give exemptions as they see fit for discriminatory behaviour. In other words, they claim that discrimination is only bad when applied by certain individuals or groups against other individuals or groups in our society in certain circumstances.
The word “discrimination” has been effectively and morally re-shaped in their own image by this secular authority.
At first glance, this is a bit Big Brother authoritarian and hypocritical, don’t you think?
So: Is it OK for secular discrimination by the Pitt Street mob but not by Christian faiths?
