Comment on Town gets a say in its economic future as $2b cut hits home by Old Maate.

Daniel, the amount is calculated on the cost of delivering services over the state / territory.
Hence the NT is a lot bigger and costs are higher, mixed in with numerous little communities all over the territory.
WA’s amount takes into account their mining boom dollars they received. It’s all fair and reasonable.
The thing that affects everything is the mining boom in WA has finished up so there will be more sharing of the GST coming in the years to come.
This is only the start.
The only way for the NT to get more income would be to create a revenue stream via mining … which they are slowly doing.

The public service keep the Government wheels turning … cutting positions opens it up to mistakes / corruption and hurts the local economies.
In saying that I’m sure there are some positions that should be cut i.e. the ones “Appalled” talks about, bigwigs.

Most youth crime down to locals, not bush visitors
Well said Ginnia. The government is failing in its responsibility of ensuring a safe environment for its people.
Oh and I’m sure most people don’t care where the people committing the crimes come from, they just want it to stop and punishments to reflect the town’s interest.

Wow John, I didn’t know anything about the whole situation but what you have said certainly insinuates something …

Warrant for police search of construction firm office
Richard and Laurence, I’m not sure what you are reading but it looks like they are just informing us on a fact, they aren’t alleging anything.
I hope there is nothing wrong and maybe it’s just something that has nothing to do with the running of the company.

Master plan for town, reconciliation plan for Australia Day
The Flags should stay as they are, they represent something that shouldn’t be trivialised with [by] adding another flag for location reasons or any other. There is nothing wrong with adding an Aboriginal flag anywhere else in Alice, maybe even a huge one on the ranges or even a huge statue up there! I feel people pushing the adding of a flag to this specific location are just after publicity and trying to stir trouble. In a town that already has enough of that. I’m sure these same people will try to pick apart what I have said to try to create an argument, when what we need are ideas and constructive thinking.
