@ Alex Nelson: In the early seventies, when I was chief reporter for the Centralian Advocate, I recall us publishing a glossy insert from the railways soliciting public comment on the possibilities of relocating the freight rail yards.
The options were leaving them where they are, shifting them to the Old Ghan terminal where the Transport Hall of Fame is now, or to Bond Springs north of the town.
My recollection is that the community response was a deafening silence.
Once the deadline had passed the railways, said OK, we’ll stay where we are.
All hell broke loose – but by then it was too late.

Hi Alana: To give us the number of cars entered would have been a computer click for the organisers versus hours of searching for us to find the car with the highest number. Why the secrecy?
We still don’t know how many cars were from Alice and how many from outside.
We still don’t know how many tickets were sold. Again, why the secrecy?
That’s the kind of research a diligent journalist undertakes when $1.3m – best guess – of taxpayers’ money is spent on a weekend of entertainment.
If it brings money into the town then let’s have the facts to substantiate and quantify that.
Let it grow? Absolutely. Many of our 19,000 plus readers are spread across the nation and the world. We cover most of the great events in The Centre. We report on a myriad of economic opportunities. Many of our 18,000 plus comment writers (so far) contribute to that vital discussion.

Stagnant CBD; industrial land, rental shortage; houses hold

Please respond also to these follow-up questions:-
• When can we expect further industrial land to become available at Brewer Estate and elsewhere?
• How much?
• Will it be fully serviced?
• Are Brewer and Arumbera subject to native title, and if so, have negotiations started with the native title holders?
• Who makes the decision about what is “heavily” impacting or not?
• What is being done about stopping wide-spread “questionable business activities” already in progress in rural residential areas?

From the Planning Scheme:
“Transport terminal” means premises used for the:
(a) loading, discharge or storage of goods in the course of the transport of those goods by air, road, rail or ship;
(b) garaging and basic maintenance of fleet vehicles; or
(c) servicing, repair and garaging or buses.
