Comment on Convincing win for Country Liberals: ALP likely to lose its only seat in The Centre by Bob Taylor.

Congratulations to Terry Mills on well earned victory and what a wonderful result for regional voters and Territorians generally who live outside of Darwin.
Is this the end of the Berrimah Line? As I’ve said in a previous comment the devil will be in the detail; that is how will the services, spending and general attention and priorities of government be shared equitably throughout the regions?
Regional MPs must remember the physical seat of power, key advisors, departmental heads and most of the staff of government will still be based in Darwin with associated pressures to maintain the status quo. MPs will also need to remember that change is not an ease governing tool to implement and even loyal supporters and the voters who swung to the new government will not support every change 100%.
The powers that be and entrenched views of interest groups and persons within the government and CLP will resist the new mandate for change creating pressures on Terry’s leadership. Be strong Terry, standby your promises and don’t squander this wonderful opportunity.

CLP candidate Ryan compromised as town’s negotiator
It’s a pity we may have two good local candidates competing for the seat of Araluen.
If Damien Ryan gets elected and if the CLP form government (that’s two big ifs), I wouldn’t be surprised if Damien puts his hand up for Chief Minister.

NT firm Sitzler gets major national award
I also had the pleasure of working for Peter & Paul Sitzler (RIP) as a carpenter on wages between 1976-1981 after working with a large interstate firm Barclay Bros.
Having recently married and started a family, Sitzler Bros. provided me with employment and support at this important period in my life.
The contrast between working for a small local builder Sitzlers and Barclays was significant.
At the end of my first year with Sitzlers I was paid a small bonus, which helped with our growing family at the time.
It is good to see they have continued to grow, improve and receive this major national award, well done Michael Sitzler and your team.

Domenico Pecorari: “NONE OF THE ABOVE.” What a great idea. Love it.

Another great river tree goes up in flames
Thank you Alex for your explanation of how this fire started.
My comment below was a general comment in nature and based on historical observations and experience. However I agree with your assessment of how this fire started and the underlying human intervention in the river that led to this and other trees being made vulnerable to any ignition source.
The Todd River and all dry inland waterways are finely balanced eco systems that do not react well to modern human meddling and any future human intervention to facilitate flow, create levies or to beautify the banks will need to be expertly managed, if at all.

Locally produced hemp could replace plastic
Trevor: Love your letters, ideas and comments on various scientific based potential opportunities which could enhance the NT economy.
I hope someone in government or a local with the means is reading, listening and paying attention to your ideas.
Unfortunately I think what happens is individuals, businesses and maybe even foreign interests read these postings and ideas and incorporate them into their own business or corporate plans and run with them.
