Drubbing for Redtails

The Redtails’ woes continue with another loss in Darwin last weekend.

Southern Districts were far too strong for the Central Australia side at Norbuilt Oval in the rural area on Saturday afternoon.

It was all one way traffic for the whole match with the Crocs producing champagne football for its home crowd. An eight goal to one opening term stunned the boys from Alice Springs and would have pleased coach Shannon Rusca.

The Crocs managed to keep the Redtails goalless in the second term and at half time led by 11 goals.

Central Australia put up more of a fight in the third term but wayward kicking in front of goal meant that most of its forward entries were futile.

Southern Districts steadied the ship in the last quarter and ran out 18.7 (115) to 4.14 (38) winners.

The Crocs were spurred on by the return of ex-AFL player Richard Tambling, who played his first game in Districts colours for ten years.

Damian Cupido kicked eight goals as his sidekick up forward in Troy Taylor booted four.

Giant ruckman Ben Dowdell was impressive in his first game for Districts while Jake Roe-Duggan got a lot of the football.

For the Redtails it was hard running defender Caleb Hart who gathered plenty of the football and generally used it well by foot.

Michaelis McMasters tried hard all day while ex-North Melbourne star Matt Campbell used his experience to lead from the front.
