Offers to purchase first blocks at Kilgariff

Applications have been made for the purchase of a “reasonable number” of blocks in Stage One of the new Kilgariff suburb, according to a reliable source.

According to another source, the intentions to purchase, coming from two construction firms, cover the majority of the 33 lots.

The firms are planning to build “spec homes” to keep their staff and sub-contractors employed while there appear to be no government funded civic nor other construction projects on the horizon.

The apparent keen interest in the land, if sustained, will advance work on Kilgariff Stage Two, 47 lots.

“The faster they sell the more land will be turned off,” says one source. “There are up to 1200 blocks at Kilgariff.”

Development permits for the first two stages have already been issued.

The NT Government, through its Land Development Corporation, is carrying out the development work – roads, water, power, sewage – at the Urban Residential Development standard, similar to Stirling Heights and Mount Johns.

The government took on the development work, likely to take some six months, because no commercial developer has put up their hand. Contracts have already been let for the sewer mains and main road in. “Machines will be on on site after Christmas,” says one source.

Chief Minister Adam Giles, who is a determined supporter of the project, has announced fully developed blocks will be for sale between $160,000 to $180,000.

  1. 160K to 180K per block stated here in Alice Springs News. Can Adam Giles back this 100% without another cop out without a statement of a backdown “due to Blah Blah Blah! costs have risen to $ ??????s.” Please Erwin Chlanda, mark your calendar for this public promise.

  2. I agree with Roger, lock in the CM’s comments on price! I am concerned if the majority of the blocks from stage one go to builders, this will not help the average person get into the market!
