Comment on Pilger’s polemic fails Australia and Aborigines by Phil Walcott.

A great piece, Kieran…as usual!!!I similarly found the ‘doco’ didn’t present a balanced perspective of the ‘truth’. Continually playing the ‘poverty card’ fails to recognise the many positives and contributions that are achieved in so many Aboriginal communities around the country. Whilst the plight of some is important to address, so is balanced recognition of the positive achievements by so many proud Aboriginal people around Australia. I’m concerned that the ways in which Pilger portrays the situation are not a true reflection and promotes a blinked & unrepresentative perspective for people around the globe who will see this. Portrayals like this simply reinforces the ‘deficit model’ that does, in reality, strengthen the problem without offering any asset solutions.

@ Braedon: Sandra indicated last year (or before) that she will not be re-contesting Katherine in the 2020 Legislative Assembly elections.

Jacinta Price: 4 year commitment lasted 18 months
Prediction: If Jacinta is not successful in winning Lingiari in four weeks and Josh Burgoyne doesn’t win the second Senate seat (which won’t happen because the Senate roles are ‘fixed’ at one CLP: one NTALP), they’ll both contest the August 2020 NT Legislative Assembly in Braitling (Jacinta) and Araluen (Josh).

A terrific read … great acknowledgement of a man who looks like having significantly contributed to many generations of Aboriginal people, both locally and around the country.
Always good to learn of such accomplishments from those of us who had a difficult beginning.
Happily shared on some social media. Thanks for being, Gordon.

Pretty obvious this is a blatant political move by the Feds. They back their own team in SA to the detriment of the opposition team in the NT.
