It appears Maurie Japarta Ryan, the embattled chairman of the Central Land Council, today lost his position during a meeting of the council in Tennant Creek.

Speaking by phone from outside the meeting, Mr Ryan says he was denied access to the gathering for most of the session, but had been given an opportunity to briefly address the meeting.

He says only 60 of the 90 delegates were present.

He also says a purported decision by locals of Daguragu – his home community – to disendorse him as their representative, had not been supported by any written document.

He doubted that the decision was made properly.

He was not allowed to stand for the position of chairman again.

Mr Ryan says after a brief rest he will given instructions for a string of legal actions.
