Minister for Racing – just for the day









As usual, there are winners and losers on Melbourne Cup Day, you can see it in their faces, but the “yessss” gesture of Health Minister Robyn Lambley (above and left) leaves little doubt in which category she was today when Protectionist won the race that stops a nation. 


The shade of the Pioneer Park pavilion, and a light breeze blowing through it, made it a perfect day for enjoying the Cup away from the big city hustle and bustle: some 400 locals turned out and also enjoyed five local races.
