Police operation – all clear

Police made the following release at 9:43am:

An operation this morning in East Side has now been resolved.

Police were attempting to arrest a man for domestic violence offences and as a precaution a part of Bougainvilia Street was cordoned off.

“There was no immediate threat to the public during this incident, but the area was cordoned off during this time to allow police operations to be undertaken,” Superintendent Travis Wurst said.

“Around 8:30 this morning, the occupant surrendered to Police and a man has been taken into custody without further incident. I’d like to thank local residents for their cooperation during this operation.”

The man is now assisting police with inquiries.

Police negotiators are attending a domestic violence incident in the New Eastside, according to a police spokeswoman.

She says: “Police are currently involved in an operation in the vicinity of Bougainvillea Avenue, East Side.

“There are traffic controls in place and the general public are asked to avoid the area at this time.

“There is no immediate risk to the general public.”

Police have blocked off Bougainvillea Avenue, according to a resident. We will keep you posted.
