Police search for convicted murderer

p2276-Peter-KammPolice are searching for Peter Michael Kamm (pictured) in the Alice Springs area. He was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment on January 31, 1991.

Kamm was paroled from prison on July 15 and part of his parole condition was that he wear an electronic monitoring device, police say.

“Yesterday evening Alice Springs police were made aware that Kamm had removed this device. He was not at his place of residence and a search immediately commenced.

Kamm is of Caucasian appearance, 50 years old, and of medium build. He has short brown hair, brown eyes and an earring in his left ear. He was last seen in the vicinity of the McDonnell Range Caravan Park.

The public are warned not to approach Kamm if sighted, but to call Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. In an emergency, call 000, police say.

I hear that Giles is furious that he was not informed of this by Corrections, he heard on the radio that a murderer on parole was on the run.
He has demanded an explanation, presumably from CEO Middlebrook – today. Unusual for a Chief Minister to publicly berate an NT Government department. A sign of deeper tensions?
