While Michelle Payne made history in Melbourne being the first female rider to win the nation’s biggest race, Marlee Veness (at right) won on the catwalk in The Alice. She’s pictured with Bec Walker, of NT Air Services, which sponsored the Fashions of the Field contest.

Vinit Ajmani (below) was the prince (not of Penzance).

As in Melbourne, the track of the Alice Springs Turf Club was slow but the sun was out again and nearly 500 locals enjoyed a five card event.

The main race, the  James Boag Premium Cup, was won by Gala Arch. Winners of the sweeps were Jean Lewis (the $5 one) and Mick Heenan (the $10 one).

Lunch in the pavilion was enjoyed by 200.
