Comment on Bush bakeries and the dough by Maggi.

Hmmm: The National VET system is under scrutiny for the shoddy outcomes provided by fly-by-night providers promising the world and delivering nothing.
This smells like our own home grown version right here in Alice; providing certified bakery training using frozen “Hot Bread Shop”, no skill product. No way can it meet the national standards required by certified training packages.
It isn’t that long ago this same company was entering agreements with corrections to supply bakery equipment and provide training when they are neither an equipment supplier nor a registered training organisation.
Now they have roped in Batchelor Institute to deliver training in an area they have no experience or history in providing.

Town council denies blocking new servos
Interesting that the Drive In site is considered “… privately owned and the road infrastructure is the responsibility of the NTG”.
The other two properties are both on the same Stuart Highway with road responsibility NTG and I assume are privately owned. The only difference can be proposals for entry or exit off of council controlled side roads. Perhaps a change to accessing the side roads gets rid of that issue.
I also understand that council are only respondents to development consent but do have councillors sitting on the authority.

Job scheme: industry ‘disappointed’, CLP ‘views expressed’.
Thank you Erwin.
Not that I want to create more work for you but how does HIA differ from the Master Builders Association?
MBA have been around for years while HIA seem to have popped up in Darwin around the Gas Plant time.
Despite this newness to the NT their 400 strong membership sounds impressive.
Do they offer something different from MBA or are they just better at representing the Building Industry?
[Hi Maggie, can I suggest check each of their websites. Kind regards, Erwin.]

Hi Erwin
I did pose the question below to Neilia against her last letter to the Alice Springs News.
Perhaps you could ask Neilia to explain the difference between the Housing Industry Association Ltd (HIA) and the Master Builders Association (MBA)?
Do both organisations represent the same builders or do they have a different membership?
Who is HIA’s membership?
Does it have a large Alice Springs membership or is it a specialist builder membership?
Is this like two unions trying to represent each other’s members?

Housing industry rejects Cureton Review findings
Hi Neilia
Could you please explain the difference between the Housing Industry Association Ltd (HIA) and the Master Builders Association (MBA)?
Do both organisations represent the same builders or have you a different membership?
Who is your membership?
Do both organisations have issues with the findings of the Cureton Review?
Thank you.

Are cops at bottle shops just bluffing?
Well said, Steve Brown.
This is actually positive policing; putting our officers in to the community, teaching our police force how to communicate with the general public, becoming the reality of the “friendly policeman” our parents taught us about and actually nipping the drunken crime in the bud instead of responding after the event.
Added bonus: I can actually go shopping with the kids without having to explain drunken behaviour.
