It appears Chief Minister Adam Giles (pictured) has misled COAG today by claiming success for a program that is discredited in the NT, and that he has put on hold for review.
The ABC reported that Mr Giles “welcomed the decision by Australia’s political leaders to support Indigenous procurement policies”.
According to the ABC, “Mr Giles said these policies, which are already running in the Northern Territory, were about getting Indigenous Australians into jobs and business”.
However, on March 15 CLP candidate for Araluen Steve Brown said – and this has never been denied by Mr Giles – that the programs he was referring to at COAG had been “put on hold” for review.
This followed a vocal campaign by business people affected by the policies.
Yet as reported by the ABC today, Mr Giles said Indigenous procurement policies had been “raised at COAG for a long period of time.
“We’ve now got a draft framework where the principles have been accepted by all. And that’s about trying to get people, Indigenous Australians, into jobs and into business.
“Mr Giles said these policies, which are already running in the Northern Territory, were about getting Indigenous Australians into jobs and business,” reported the ABC.
