Cool and overcast weather didn’t deter a good crowd from coming to the town’s 57th annual show today.
The sideshow alley was packed, mostly with Aboriginal people and their excited kids.
Nicely blending into the attractions is an Electoral Commission booth for pre-polling, luring a pretty steady stream of voters past a phalanx of how-to-vote card distributors.
About half of the grand parade consisted of police, fire, bushfire and emergency services vehicles, their sirens and flashing lights delighting the kids.
Pony Club members and cattle station folk brought up the rear, at leading beasts in prime condition.
Show Society president Rosie Gibbins says both the numbers of stall holders (175) and entries of exhibits (2700) in 30 competition sections were on par with last year. Attendance figures won’t be known until early next week.
Tonight’s fireworks will be double the usual because the Show this year coincides with Territory Day.
Tonight’s fireworks started before lunch time on the Northside.
