Comment on Suddenly everyone is talking about 1Territory by John Bell.

Independent MPs have their own individual agendas. They are smaller versions of the major parties. It is hardly likely that they would get together to bring fiscal responsibility back as a Territory priority.
Badly needed: Dennis Stevenson to gather support for an abolition of the NT Self Government Act 1978.

Suddenly everyone is talking about 1Territory
@ Evelyne Roullet: Let’s face it. Bob Collins had a significant self interest in making that comment as a pollie representing the NT.
Was Bob and his fellow pollies’ failure to see things going downhill, even all those years ago, perhaps part of the long-entrenched problem that led to the sorry state of affairs now?

Suddenly everyone is talking about 1Territory
@Bob Beadman. That is a comment worth thought. But that was a long time ago – in a different world. Agree with you that Canberra is La La Land. However, the local pollies have had plenty of opportinities, only to blow it big time. In today’s environment, Territory administration surely can be effectively controlled by locals delivering vital services to give Territorians a good quality of life, do you think?

Looks like Wazza’s back
I have been asking Wazza questions of accountability for significant expenditure of Commonwealth grant funds in a charity for the Indigenous Marathon Project for six and a half years now.
As the keeper of public trust for the Aboriginal people of remote tribal communities in Lingiari, Wazza should be transparent.
He should come clean now that he remains the keeper for the next three years.
I would be very happy to get to his electoral office in Alice somehow for a cup of coffee and a couple of simple answers in the public interest.

Anti-fracking Greens: Are jobs for the dole schemes legal?
No discussion about the state of the economy. Neither NT nor national.
The Greens everywhere avoid discussing how to repair and grow Australia’s economy like the plague.

Back to the future with Warren Snowdon
Warren has an unenviable task promoting Labor’s Federal fiscal policies in the Lingiari electorate with the millstone of the Gunner government financial disaster hanging around his neck.
Understandably, he distances Federal Labor from NT Labor with his response to Erwin’s questions: “The NT Government is responsible for any debt it incurs. It has a responsibility to repay it. And it will.”

Price family were sole complainants against Cocking & Satour
@James T Smerk. There are penalties for vexatious litigants in tribunals and courts. By way of award of costs against the vexatious litigant. I speak from practical experience. However, where the decision maker is simply a departmental committee, there is no jurisdictional power to penalise, to my knowledge.

Jacinta Price spits dummy
@ Ian Sharpe, @ Charlie Carter. Lads. Felt I needed to respond.
We are three old white men with different political views. Not sure about you Charlie but neither Sharpie nor I were born in the Alice. We are both Mexicans from south of the Albury border.
I lobbed in Alice ’67 and Sharpie in the ’80s (?).
We barrack for different Melbourne footy teams. So we are chalk and cheese in that respect.
Except that I think if the three of us sat down and chatted about things that matter with personal values, I think we would find all three have very similar ciggie paper split difference ethical standards.
Like most of us who are not born Alicians of Aboriginal heritage we can only go on our own individual experiences in the Alice.
We all hold Aboriginal Alicians in the highest regard.
We all have our own individual experiences with, and perceptions of, the ladies at the heart of this article.
I make no “snide” remarks about Marcia. I speak openly as you do.
I too, Charlie, have followed Marcia closely for many years in her activism and academic career path. I say simply that she who criticises – and Marcia is definitely criticising Jacinta in the article – is not free of criticism herself. As with all of us.
Noel Pearson will attest to that. I do know that opinions are sharply divided on these two ladies of different political views, regardless of race, among the broad spectrum of all Alicians and ex-patriate Alicians.
That can be seen from other comments by readers whom I regard as friends. That is the beauty of life in the Alice, hey lads?
