Comment on Make September 8 Australia Day, anthem in Pitjantjatjara by James T Smerk.

The concern is there will still be people who associate Australia Day on any date as Invasion Day.
Changing the date won’t change this.
I would like to see how many Indigenous people see it as invasion day and really want this date changed, or is it being pushed by a minority of full time protesters who will find anything to protest about.
I also note it was the British who invaded and not Australians. Maybe direct the anger towards those mob.

It might be old but it’s just not something that would attract tourist or many local visitors throughout the year if it was ‘done up’.

How many Welcomes to Country is too many?
I lived next door to an Elder a few years back when all this started and he told me the welcome to country was a made up white man thing to make them feel better about taking their land.
It is not their way but if they were willing to pay him (it was $2,000 a pop) for a one minute speech he would go along with it.

Not fixing this problem won’t fix anything. Allowing kids to not be punished for crimes is inviting the development of serious offending adults, with no future for them and their families.
Maybe there should be more talk amongst parents and shaming when they don’t do what they should do.

In a small town this should be on the tips of everyone’s tongues. But no, just business as usual, and if anything a slow news day. Sad.
