Do the crime, do the time. Elders must show leadership to youth by working hard.
Fighting “for what’s right” would include having a deterrent for not breaking the law, and repercussions for breaking the law!
Not fixing this problem won’t fix anything. Allowing kids to not be punished for crimes is inviting the development of serious offending adults, with no future for them and their families.
Maybe there should be more talk amongst parents and shaming when they don’t do what they should do.
NAIDOC week should be a time to celebrate the positive achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Those who want to rant about youth crime have 51 other weeks of the year to do so.
OK, so the grandmothers group again bring attention to the fact youth are ending up in detention.
What are they trying to achieve? Are they seeking behavioural change from our youth? Are they themselves heading up any programs or initiatives for youth to engage with?
These kids aren’t ending up in the clink for stealing lollies.
Agreed also with Davo. For one week a year, perhaps celebrate some positive achievements within the community … there are a few.
