Comment on Government electricity firm in trouble as solar booms by Curious.

Didn’t Giles and/or predecessors already sell all of NT’s Gas?!
As well as Darwin Port??!!
For short term election funding war chest purposes … which did him a wealth of good. Not.

No power for eight hours on hot, humid day
Shaun: Spot on. I thought it was weird comment as well as I was out and about myself and didn’t feel any humidity.
However, you forget the Darwin centric location and thinking of those making the decisions and these type of comments.
Clouds in Darwin generally equate to humidity … so it must be the same down here as well!
But apparently the clouds did initiate the blackout process as the alternative solar power generation source was compromised by them and couldn’t produce enough capacity!
If the dependability of Alices’s future power supply is on clouds or no clouds from now on I might be moving interstate!

Private $25m residential project for health staff
Private investment? 100% backed by a long term government contract which I’m sure works very much in the long term favour of the private investor, not the taxpayer!
Take away the government contract and what do you get?
No “private” investment.
Does Gunner really think we are that stupid to not recognise this is not private investment?
Well, come the next election he may be feeling like the stupid one … if he doesn’t already.
Does this bunch of ex school teachers running the Territory really understand the real world outside of a classroom?

Cr Melky: Mayor’s CLP candidacy, a risk for the council?
Perhaps a little Pot / Kettle / Black of Eli?
So what happens when Eli announces he is standing for the ACP in the next NT election?
Which is not exactly a very well hidden secret.
Or does he only attract “conflict of interest” himself once he officially states he is running?
Which appears a little disingenuous to me, as he himself is not exactly apolitical.
Lets face it, we all know council run along 4 x Libs v 4 x Labour / Other / Greens lines.
Local Government is ALWAYS State / Fed Party Political affiliated.
You do wonder if they are actually working for the residents and ratepayers of Alice Springs though, or just in it to further their own higher political ambitions.

Council: push to declare climate emergency backfires
Yes, us 20,000 or so Alice locals will save the planet by our actions. Not.
And quoting Tim Flannery doesn’t serve the climate action cause very well at all. How many of his famous “Weather Makers” claims have come true? Have another read and see.
Over-population of the planet and volcanic emissions (both above ground and below the seas, which we can do absolutely nothing about) are the biggest threats to earth’s longevity and liveability.
Other than large meteors from outer space, that is.
And if we believe humans can tame / moderate Mother Nature’s climate, well, we are kidding ourselves.
Yes, stop fossil fuel emissions by all means, as their are other sustainable alternatives available now, but in the end we will still be at the mercy of Mother Nature.
Lets not forget, climate change has been occurring for millions and millions of years before the very “recent” (in Earth’s timeframe terms) Industrial Revolution and consequential man made CO2 emissions accelerated things.
We need to adapt, as earth’s creatures have done over thousands and thousands of years … but quickly, as trying to modify and “manage” earth’s climate in order for humanity to survive is, in the end, an unrealistic, utopian dream.
Just say’n.

Ministers lash out at council over gallery
I’m confused! Again!
Is it just me, or do the following statements reported in separate articles in today’s Alice Springs News not seem to make sense and contradict each other?
“She also made clear that the government had urged the town council to discuss the gallery issues in open council rather than behind closed doors as will be the case today.
We really need to re-set the conversation around the art gallery,” said Ms Wakefield.
Whilst in the article above …
“Meanwhile Town Council CEO Robert Jennings has responded to a question from the Alice Springs News why the special council meeting on Tuesday was held behind closed doors.
He says: “This meeting was held as a confidential meeting in accordance with the Local Government Act due to some of the items included in the report being marked as confidential and Council was respecting that request.”
Is it confidential or open business?
It can’t be both.
And if Alice Springs Town Council and the NT Government can’t even agree on a local government due process technicality, how the hell can we expect them to agree on the details of the actual gallery project itself?
Mind boggling!
Alice Springs residents currently seem to be living a real life ABC TV “Utopia” experience.
