The town council has identified 10 parks, mostly small ones, for possible “divestment” (red dots on the map).

Four are on the Northside (Madigan, Dixon Community, Maynard and McCoy parks), four in Gillen (Day, Chalmers, Spencer and Poeppel Gardens parks), Davidson Park in the Old Eastside and Beefwood Park, also apparently know as Plumbago Park, in Sadadeen.

The council’s Parks and Playgrounds Implementation Plan 2023-2028 is now open for public comment.

UPDATE May 29, 2025:

Alice Springs Town Council has passed a motion to revise the current consultation process for the Parks Implementation Plan 2023–2028, according to a statement made today.

Following feedback from the community, Council has resolved to:

• Withdraw the current Parks Implementation Plan from public consultation.

• Restart the consultation process in two separate stages — one focused on proposed park improvements, and another focused on the concept of divestment.

This change aims to give residents a clearer understanding of the options and ensure the community can consider each aspect of the plan in more detail. Council remains committed to maintaining and enhancing green spaces throughout Alice Springs.
