144 new dwellings: Melanka deadline nears

By ERWIN CHLANDA

The end of this month is the deadline for financial bids to develop a complex of 144 dwellings on the former Melanka block in Todd Street.

Michael Sitzler, a member of the consortium Melanka PL, says it is seeking “competitive prices”.

If the final construction costs exceed what is considered feasible there would need to be a “rethink” about the project.

It will have four buildings five storeys high and one of four storeys.

The ground floors will be for parking.

Asked how he judges the region’s current economic situation, Mr Sitzler said if the Nolans Bore rare earth project 135 kms north of Alice Springs became reality, that would be a major boost.
