Alice Apex club's role in date for Australia Day

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
I’m writing to the members of the Alice Springs Town Council in reference to their thoughts about changing the date of Australia Day.
I remember when Australia Day was always held on the nearest Monday to the 26th of January.
I also remember when a member of the Apex Club Central Australia came up with the idea of Australia Day being held on that date, whether it is a Monday or not. The USA celebrates their Independence Day always on the 4th of July.
I also remember when a member of the Apex Club Central Australia came up with the idea of Australia Day being held on that day, being the 26th of January, each year as is the USA celebrates their Independence Day on the day being the 4th of July.
The member, Terry McCumisky, took his idea as a motion to the Apex National Convention as a national project and got it up. The Federal Government agreed. From his effort Australia Day has been on the 26th. I cannot remember the year this happened.
