Dangerous crossings

Are they pedestrian crossings or not? They're ugly and dangerous.
Who has the right-of-way, the cars or the walkers crossing the road?
Sometimes both stop, which is irritating, or both go, which is dangerous.
This is a conundrum facing road users wherever there is one of the shade structures, in Hartley and Bath Streets, either side of the Yeperenye shopping centre, and across Todd Street, opposite the council chambers.
We checked with the office of Josh Burgoyne, responsible for the structures highly unsuited for an outback town, and were told: "As your queries relate to road safety matters, these questions are better directed to the Department of Logistics and Infrastructure directly."
We did. It's two days after our first enquiry and we still don't have an answer.
Meanwhile no appropriate solution has been fund for the shed and the black spiked fence blocking much of the view from the Telegraph Station picnic grounds to the historic building at its northern end, by far the best known iconic structure in the town.
Says the Department of Tourism and Hospitality: “A shed was replaced, and fence installed around an area housing two in-ground water tanks that supply water for the underground irrigation system.
“The shed and fence are permanent, and were approved by the Heritage Council.”
We are seeking comment from its chair, Randle Walker.
