New library above council carpark

The new library will be above the council car park at the Civic Centre "retaining our much-loved green lawns, affording panoramic views of our iconic Lhere Mparntwe Todd River, and protecting our books from risk of flood events".
Mayor Asta Hill says the site "keeps the library within the heart of town while allowing for a larger facility for the next 40 years of community life".
With NT Government support of $15m, planning has commenced for the $20m million project with design work and "extensive community consultation".
As part of the project, Tourism Central Australia will co-locate within the current library building, first moving into the Special Collections space and later transitioning into the entire building once construction is complete on the new facility.
The Special Collection will be moved into secure storage in an undisclosed location for a period of three months when it will not be accessible to the public.
The Andy McNeill Room will be unavailable for the "foreseeable future".
