Sir – The CLP Government is closing the Motor Vehicle Registry (MVR) in the last week of the year, from Monday 29 to Wednesday 31 December, and as a result shutting down car sales for local traders.

They will not be able to transfer cars to Territorians wanting to buy new cars over that period.

This is a busy time for motor traders and this decision has effectively shut down their business and robbed Territorians of being able to buy and drive home a new car.

At this time of year many car factories are promoting end of year run out sales and now Territorians won’t be able to take advantage of those sales.

The MVR has always kept its doors open over this period, and with motor traders unable to transfer registration online, they need access to a MVR counter.

The Government has made this decision without any consultation with industry.

Adam Giles is arrogant and out of touch when it comes to small business, he simply doesn’t understand small business drives the economy.

I call on the CLP Government to reverse the decision and keep the MVR open.
